Tasks: Compare/contrast life in northern, middle and southern colonies
Defend the treatment of Native Americans in each region from the perspective of the colonists in that region. Explain why the Native Americans treated the colonists in each region in the way they did from the perspective of a Native American.
Propose an alternative way the Native Americans and colonists could have resolved differences with one another.
1. What percent of colonies got along with the Natives?
2. How many natives traded with the colonist?
3. What kind of weapons did the Natives have?
4. How much of the New England area did the Natives take up?
The Native Americans were nice to the Colonists and gave them land because they thought land could not be owned but only cared for. So the Natives were angry that the settlers tricked them and then they had war.
The colonists thought the natives were just being nice giving them land and food and didn't realize that they were tricking them.
The natives could have asked the settlers if they meant to trick told them and the colonists could have told the Natives they were not tricking them.
Middle Colonies
Knew how to grow food in the soil
knew about the geographical features
could trade for food
Southern Colonies
Colonists would not have survived without the Native Americans
They taught the colonists how to tap maple trees, boil sap for maple sugar and snare fish as well as how to grow corn
the Native Americans had villages up to 50 to 2ooo people they lived in wigwams
The women and children tended fields, and the men fished and hunted

We have learned many things. We learned about what they trade and what they teach. Also we learned what they lived in. We learned how each region is different.
